A prepreg carbon fiber of higher quality and strength than standard carbon fiber. Negri Cases uses it for the Vulcano line; the Eternity line uses pure carbon fiber.
Eternity is pure carbon fiber, lighter (1.5–1.7 kg for violin) and from $850. Vulcano is aerospace grade carbon fiber with automotive finishes, a leather handle and a velour interior, from $1,300.
A triangular case follows the shape of the violin: it is more compact and lighter and usually holds two bows. An oblong (rectangular) case has more room inside: usually four bow holders, a larger accessory pocket and often a music compartment.
Many airlines accept a violin or viola case in the cabin, but the rules depend on the airline, the route and the fare; a cello normally needs its own seat. Check with your airline before you fly.
